Victorian House Renovation
Victorian House Renovation — Specialist Contractors Across the UK
Vantix Group renovates Victorian terraces, semis and detached properties with the knowledge and care these buildings require — preserving what makes them special while bringing them up to modern standards.
Victorian houses make up a significant proportion of the UK's housing stock — and they're among the most sought-after properties in the country. The combination of high ceilings, large windows, original features, and solid brick construction gives them a character that modern houses rarely match. But they also come with specific challenges that require specific knowledge to address properly.
Vantix Group specialises in Victorian house renovation. We understand the structural characteristics of Victorian construction — the solid brick walls, the timber floors, the original roof structure — and we know how to work with them rather than against them. We use lime mortar where it's appropriate, we restore original features where they can be saved, and we bring Victorian properties up to modern standards of comfort and energy efficiency without compromising what makes them worth renovating in the first place.
We work across the whole of the UK on Victorian house renovation projects — from terraced houses in city centres to detached Victorian villas in market towns. You can see examples of completed Victorian renovation projects on our projects page.

What Victorian House Renovation Involves
Victorian terraces are the most common type we renovate. The typical scope includes rewiring and replumbing — Victorian electrical and plumbing systems are almost always at the end of their useful life — new kitchen and bathrooms, restoration of original features including cornices, skirtings, architraves, and fireplaces, and full redecoration. Many Victorian terraces also benefit from a rear kitchen extension, which creates the open-plan kitchen-diner that modern living requires. See our kitchen extension page for more detail on that.
The rear outrigger — the single-storey addition at the back of many Victorian terraces — is often the most problematic part of the building. It's typically the oldest part of the structure, it's often damp, and it's frequently been modified in ways that have created problems. We assess the outrigger carefully before the project starts and plan the work to address any structural or damp issues before they become problems mid-build.
Sash window restoration is a particular area of expertise. Original Victorian sash windows are worth preserving — they're better proportioned than modern replacements, they're repairable, and they contribute significantly to the character of the property. We repair and draught-proof original sashes rather than replacing them with uPVC, which is almost always the wrong choice for a Victorian property. For listed Victorian properties, see our period property renovation page for more detail on the consent process.
